Johnson and Johnson Bone Putty Has Tendency to Catch Fire and Cause Serious Injury and Death

U.S. health regulators have issued a Class 1 recall of the Johnson & Johnson made bone putty as the putty has shown a high tendency to catch fire when coming into contact with electrosurgical cautery systems during surgery. Such categorization indicates high risk factors for serious injury, including death. While bone putty was designed to prevent bone bleeding by creating a physical barrier along the edges of bones damaged by trauma or cut during surgery, the product’s risks have forced its discontinuation.
